Header Panel
1. Overview: What is the Header Panel?
The Header Panel in EPV is a fixed toolbar that appears at the top of the EPV interface whenever you open a document. It provides easy access to key features like:
-
Document Status – Track your document’s progress.
-
Discipline – Manage color settings linked to your role in the project.
-
File Name – Quickly identify the document you're working on.
-
Auto-Save – Ensures changes are automatically saved.
-
Download, Print, and Share – Convenient tools for managing your documents.
2. Key Features of the Header Panel
A. Document Status
What It Does: Allows you to set and track your document’s progress.
Options Available:
-
New (Default)
-
In Progress
-
On Hold
-
Cancelled
-
Completed
Key Behaviors:
-
Document Status is user-specific — your status won’t affect other users working on the same document.
-
The status does not transfer when you share a document.
-
Users can switch between statuses as many times as they like.
B. Discipline (Optional)
What It Does: Allows you to assign a Discipline to your markups for visual clarity.
Key Behaviors:
-
If no Discipline is selected, your markup color defaults to red (but can be changed).
-
If a Discipline is selected, the associated color will automatically apply, and the Color Palette will be disabled.
-
Hovering over the disabled Color Palette will display a help message explaining why.
C. Auto-Save
What It Does: Ensures your work is automatically saved whenever you make changes.
Auto-Save Triggers:
-
Adding, editing, or deleting a markup.
-
Document manipulations such as renaming, adding, or rotating pages.
-
Periodic saves every 15-20 minutes if the document is idle.
-
Auto-save activates when you exit a document to prevent data loss.
Visual Feedback:
-
A 'Saving...' message appears during the save process.
-
A 'Saved' confirmation appears once the changes are secure.
-
If a save fails (e.g., due to a network issue), you’ll see a 'Failed to save. Retrying...' message, and the system will attempt to save again automatically.
D. Download, Print, and Share
Download:
-
Download a document with or without markups.
-
Displays a progress bar for larger files.
Print:
-
Default print layout is portrait.
-
Users can choose to print in grayscale or black & white.
-
Users can print all pages, a range of pages, or specific pages.
Share:
-
Share documents with up to 10 EPV users at a time.
-
Users can assign up to 10 disciplines to each user during sharing.
-
Markup rights are automatically granted during sharing.
E. Back Button
What It Does: Allows you to exit the markup window and return to your document list.
Key Behaviors:
-
Clicking the Back Button triggers an Auto-Save before leaving.
-
If a document status change is pending, a confirmation prompt asks:
"Do you want to change the doc status before exiting the page?"
-
Users can choose Yes or No or enable a 'Don’t Show Again' option for future exits.
3. How to Use the Header Panel Efficiently
-
Use the Doc Status feature to track your progress.
-
If you don’t use the Discipline feature, remember that the default markup color is red, but you can switch it in the Color Palette.
-
Rely on the Auto-Save feature for seamless progress tracking, especially when managing large documents.
-
Use the Back Button to safely exit the markup window while ensuring your work is saved.
4. Troubleshooting & Tips
🔹 If you experience an Auto-Save failure, the system will automatically retry within 3 seconds.
🔹 If your internet connection drops while editing, changes are queued and synced once the connection is restored.
🔹 Use the 'Saved X time ago' message in the Header Panel to confirm your latest changes are secure.
